The Dinner

Sam and Cassie: With the kids at college Cassie has a lot more free time and she decided to take some art classes. When she tells Sam about it, he supports her and says she will do it great. Cassie laughed while she reminded him that he thought her drawing of a cat looked like an ostrich, Sam gets nervous and tells her that it has style making Cassie laugh even more. But then in a serious thone he tells her he supports her and they kiss. Later Cassie goes to visit Sam at the hospital and tells him that she has decided to quit the art class and travel to París instead. This leaves Sam totally surprised and confused and he reminds her that she has two businesses and that he has work... but sees her so excited that tell her that they will do it. Cassie talks to Sam about Nick and how he feels and tells him to remind Nick about his own problems at college and how he will always support him. During the Progressive Dinner they sit and talk and Cassie tells him that she got too excited earlier and that he was right... Sam smiles knowing that she would get to that point and Cassie realized that he knew she would get to that point... but supported her anyway. Sam smiles telling her he will always support her and they share a sweet and cute smile and look. At the end, Cassie asks Sam if the talk with Nick worked and he smiles saying yes. - The Progressive Dinner: is a tradition in Middleton that consists of welcoming a new citizen into the town, in this case Joy. People from town prepare something for dinner: fist plates, desserts , entrance... in their houses and the rest of the community travel around the house to eat each plate. In this case the houses are Martha´s. Stephanie´s and Casse´s. LESSONS: always try to have beautiful traditions to reunite and share with your friends and community - Joy, Abigail and Cassie: Joy is reading Elizabeth Merriwick´s journal and she discovers an old Merriwick tradition that she wants to try: making dream candles. Abigail and Cassie are in the kitchen talking and Joy comes to tell them their idea but Cassie already knows what she is thinking and tells her she would love to do it. Then they explain it to Abigail who was looking at them having no idea what they were talking about. While going through an old box with the elements to make the candle they discovered Elizabeth Merriwick´s candle and they lit it up to see what her dream was. They all make their dream and then at the end of the day see what Elizabeth's wish was, they read "never stop learning" while they smile. LESSONS: It is great to have family traditions that you can keep doing and passing generation after generation. Always learn from the ones who came before you - Martha and her friend: one of Martha´s friends is mad at her husband because he didn't do some things in the house that he told her he would do, so she cancels their trip. But Martha tells her to ask for help and forgive her husband, and just enjoy their trip. Her friends tells her that there is another problem, because she writes a column on the internet giving advice and she can't leave that for 2 weeks. Martha offers herself to write for her so she can go on the trip. LESSONS: always support your friends and help them when they need someone - Nick: he has to do a college paper and goes to Middleton to interview The Merriwick´s but Sam is worried because Nick didn't had to travel home just to do the paper and thinks that something is going on. While he does the interview, Cassie, Joy and Abigail see that he gets a message and gets nervous, it´s from his university and it´s not good. They try to cheer him up, telling him that everyone faces subjects that are difficult in college knowing what the message said. Later Nick admits to Cassie that there is a subject that he can't pass and that if he doesn't get a good grade the college will take him out of the career. Nick tells Cassie that he doesn't know how to tell his dad because he thinks he will be mad at him. Cassie talks to Sam and then Sam goes to talk to Nick telling him that he faced a similar situation while he was studying medicine and that as long as he tries his best he will never disappoint him. Sam tells Nick to study and that he will pass the exam and Nick feels better and keeps studying. LESSONS: always remind your kids and loved ones how you will support them no matter what and how you already went through what they are living, giving them advices and support - Tom and Martha: when Tom sees that Martha is a little bored he writes a letter for her friend at her blog for Martha to answer, is a riddle about someone keeping a secret from his partner and Martha thinks is someone they know. Martha starts a hunt to find out which couple is the one with the problem which keeps her entertained. During the dinner Martha sees that Joy, Abigail and Cassie know about the letter confusing her even more... but at the end she finds out that Tom wrote it and thanks him for caring about her being bored. She also finds out that Tom was the one keeping a secret about their son and wife visiting them next week. Tom smiles and they eat some cake. LESSONS: always try to get involved with your partner and to cheer them up. - Stephanie, Adam and West: West is back because they had a lot of offers about their cabin and they sell it soon so West proposes to Stephanie to celebrate it and she says yes. But she doesn't tell Adam that West is back in town and during the Progressive Dinner West goes to Stephanie´s house with a bottle of wine. Of course Adam gets mad, because he thinks that she is having second thoughts about them and decides to leave the dinner. Abigail asks Stephanie what is going on and she tells her that she is afraid... so Abigail tells her that there is nothing wrong with being afraid but that she should be honest with Adam. Later Stephanie goes and talks to Adam and is honest with him about she being afraid of how much she loves him, Adam smiles telling her that he loves her too and that it is ok to be afraid. LESSONS: never be afraid of telling your loved ones how you feel, is ok to be afraid of new things and relationships, but is better to be honest and face the fears together - Abigail and Donovan: when Donovan finds out that Abigail´s dream is to live in Italy he gets worried because he never thought of living anywhere else but in Blairsville and because Abigail never told him her dream. He goes to talk to Cassie, who makes him realize that he has dreams too, dreams that he never told to Abigail, and that he is just scared of losing her because of how much he loves her. Cassie tells him to be honest with Abigail and to face the future together. During the Progressive Dinner Abigail sees Cassie and Sam talking about how he would follow her wherever she goes and that supports her in travelling and looks at Donovan with a sad face. Later Donovan talks to Abigail and tells her that if living in Italy is what she really wants he will support her. Abigail smiles and thanks him. LESSONS: sometimes people open your eyes to new futures you never thought about, be honest and supportive with your loved ones dreams - Sam´s patient: Sam has a patient that is not ok with the surgery that he needs and he asks Adam for some help. Adam has this beautiful ritual with patients at Hillcrest Hospital: he takes them out for a ride to the gardens of the hospital for them to relax and enjoy some fresh air and nature. He takes Sam patient out for a ride and they talk about when they were kids, Adam hears him tell a story and he just sits there and listens to him, and helps him relax before surgery. LESSONS: there is always something you can do to get those around you to feel better and help them, sometimes you don't need to talk, sometimes you just need to listen - Joy and Carter: Joy discovers that Carter is her new partner in Martha's house project and she is not happy about it. They keep arguing with each other until Joy fires him, but then she realizes she needs a carpenter for the project and starts looking for one realizing that she is in Middleton, a small town where the only carpenter is Carter. Trying to get him back on board, Joy invites him to the Progressive Dinner where they start to argue again because Carter doesn´t want to work with her again... In that moment Cassie comes to the kitchen seeing them and tells them that what they need is a fresh start and that "sometimes if you give a little, you get a lot" making them realize they will have to compromise and learn to work together. At the end, Carter agrees to work with Joy again and Joy thanks him smiling. LESSONS: sometimes you have to compromise and learn to work with people who you didn't like at first, but maybe end up getting to know them and liking them As you can see, all are examples of real life situations.
